The story of Saint Benedict and the raven is one of those everyday moments that may seem small, yet carry a profound sign of Divine intervention
Every day, a raven would come to the monastery and receive a portion of bread from Saint Benedict. This simple gesture created a silent bond of trust and care between the man and the bird.
But one day... everything changed. A jealous monk, troubled by Benedict’s holiness, attempted to kill him. He baked a loaf of bread and poisoned it. Then, he sent it as if it were a gift.
When Benedict received the bread, God revealed the danger to him.
Calmly, he called the raven, pointed to the bread, and commanded:
“In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, take this bread and leave it in a place where no man can find it.”
The raven hesitated. It hopped around the bread, cawed, and seemed afraid to touch it. But Benedict insisted, promising that no harm would come to the bird.
Obediently, the raven took the bread in its beak and flew away. It disappeared for three hours before finally returning.
Thus, God delivered Saint Benedict from the trap.
