The miraculous appearance of a sixth knot in Saint Philomena's cord as an indication of the intercession received at the request of a grace

Some saints have a unique way of revealing themselves to the faithful who have received an answered prayer through their intercession with God. Saint Thérèse of Lisieux makes herself known through the gift of a rose, Saint Padre Pio through the sudden presence of very pleasant fragrances, among others. Saint Philomena manifests her presence miraculously through the appearance of a sixth knot on her cord, which is originally made with only five knots: three on one side representing the Holy Trinity, and two on the other symbolizing Saint Philomena's martyrdom and purity.

The cord is made of linen, wool, or cotton, braided in red and white, and is blessed by a priest. It is usually worn tied around the wrist, ankle, or waist.

Saint John Mary Vianney (the Curé of Ars) was a great devotee and promoter of wearing Saint Philomena’s cord. Its use was even approved by Pope Leo XIII, who granted indulgences to those who wear it and pray the following prayer daily:

“O Saint Philomena, Virgin and Martyr, pray for us, so that through your powerful intercession we may obtain the purity of soul and heart that leads to the perfect love of God.”

Plenary indulgences may also be obtained through this devotion, as long as the other traditional requirements of the Catholic Church are also fulfilled. Read more about plenary and partial indulgences BY CLICKING HERE.

There are many testimonies of the appearance of the sixth knot after praying the novena to Saint Philomena and asking her intercession for a special grace from God. Ask with faith and pray the novena too!
